Classic Rock Presents Prog Issue 2

The second issue of Classic Rocks Prog mag is out next week. Here's the cover. Interesting to note that the cover mounted CD will contain a track from the new Dream Theater album.

It's a good read, and a great CD. £8 is a lot to pay, though. Hopefully, they'll bring the price of the third issue down.

£8 would be cheap for us! Over here in Greece, it costs 19 Euros. At an exchange rate of almost 1:1 and with lower wages here, that's a lot of money.

I think the trouble is that if there is not a huge market for the magazine then the production costs will be very high per copy.

The mag is selling very well. For issue 2 the production run was upped by 30%. The CD is even better than for issue 1 as is the mag!

Great to see HAKEN on the CD. There is a buzz about this band amongst those who follow their prog metal closely - includes musicians from TO-MERA and LINEAR SPHERE fame - worth checking out.

sorry for the lack of blogs. I was made redundant from my job back in June. Not working for the moment but hope to get back to the blog soon.

I'm very sorry to hear about your job. When you weren't blogging, I thought you might have been ill. I hope things will go better for you. I'm sure you'll sort something out.

On the music front, I have been listening to a lot of AOR. My favourite is a band called Place Vendome, which is fronted by the ex-Halloween vocalist although his new band sounds nothing like Halloween.

I just found a new prog band called Combination Head. They do poppy neo-prog - very catchy.

All the best - looking forward to the next blog entry.

News about HAKEN'S highly anticipated debut album - AQUARIUS.

Haken have put up a full track from the album.

Listen to ETERNAL RAIN and a medley teaser on:
www.myspace.com/hakenmusic

The official release dates are Europe 29/03 and USA 30/03 - released on LASER'S EDGE/SENSORY.

'HAKEN meld metal with progressive rock, drawing influences from contemporary bands like Dream Theater and IQ as well as “old school” icons Genesis and Queen. Aquarius is their debut release - a 72 minute, larger than life conceptual sci-fi/fantasy work filled with bombastic keyboard flourishes, stunning vocals, and lethal guitarwork. The album was recorded in Germany at Spacelab Studios (Delain, Everon, Wolverine) and mastered in Germany at Eroc’s Mastering Ranch. Artwork is by Dennis Sibeijn at Damn Engine created to tie in with the Aquarius story.' [Laser's Edge Biog]

Great show at the Underworld opening for Diablo Swing Orchestra - HAKEN were on fire - great sound, a good crowd of enthusiastic people turned up, specifically to see HAKEN, despite the early start and a real buzz after the set - STREAMS - ETERNAL RAIN - CELESTIAL ELIXIR, during which the jazz band section was played live by the Haken Horns, who burst on to the stage bang on cue, played brilliantly and disappeared - pure HAKEN. Here they are warming up back stage.

If you're in London on 12th November, head down to the Camden Underworld, where HAKEN will be opening for FREAK KITCHEN - it doesn't get much better than that.

PS. HAKEN will make their US debut at PROGPOWER USA XII in ATLANTA - September 2011.
